Day 3 – this is the epitome of our road trip – 6 hours of driving through a flat landscape to the mountainous terrain in Brasov. The weather also changed from being truly hot at 28 degrees to rain on the mountainside and then back to being sunny later.
We stopped by a fountain half way up the mountain where it is famed for its clear, fresh and cool waters. Like many people, we too discarded the water in our bottles and refill them with the fresh spring water. I am so glad we have Alex with us to show us this little titbit of what the locals do.
After 6 hours we were pleased to arrive at Brasov and getting out of the confines of the car. The old part of the town is pretty and quaint and our little hotel is equally unusual with its wooden beams and stairs. This hotel is a few hundred years old and was previously owned by the mayor of the town.
This is an alley way famous for being so narrow further in that only one person can walk through it at a time. I love the little old man checking out what the boys are up to in this photo.
We found an excellent restaurant for a Romanian dinner. We were in a celebratory mood after that long drive. I am so surprised that Alex can finish that enormous portion of pork knuckle!
I can understand now why this place is one of the highlights of the country.
