I had the opportunity to travel First Class on British Airways to New York this time round.
I was so super excited and garnered as much information as possible from my well heeled and well travelled friend, Tim. As usual he was a fount of knowledge on all things British Airways. So I came well prepared at Heathrow Terminal 5 to be indulged and pampered.
First stop was to Elemis Spa for a mini massage. And then to the Concord Lounge – the exclusive lounge only open to First Class travellers. What truly amazed me was the number of people in there. I had not expected to see that many passengers travelling First Class and some with small children too.
According to Tim, I could book a Cabana to relax or sleep in. But I had wanted to look around and did not want to cocoon myself in an isolated spot. So I popped over to the restaurant to get a 3 course meal with champagne. The dining area is well thought out for single travellers too – there are many booth-like dining seats so you can dine without feeling self-conscious that other people may be looking at you. The meal was beautifully executed and delicious. After the meal, I popped back to the main lounge to people-watch until it was time to board.
As I boarded the plane, I was greeted by name and shown to my seat. A lovely touch. This has to be the best window seat I have ever encountered. Besides the large seat as expected, you also have a large blue electronic window screen and a larger TV screen. I have given a generous toiletries bag and also a sleep suit to change into later.
The meal served later were laid out on fine china plates and I get proper metal cutlery!
