I am in New York for work and we have been invited to a game of ice hockey at Madison Square Gardens. New York Rangers playing against New Jersey Devils.
I was brimming with excitement. This is such an American sport and I was looking forward to seeing some players throwing a tantrum or fighting each other on the ice. Sadly the players behaved rather well today and we were treated to only one slinging match.
The funniest thing has to be the music that accompany the start of the game. It is, to my ears, the strangest 1950’s jingle on an organ. The music is played every time the game stops and there are a lot of stops. By the end of the evening, that jingle stayed in my mind and played over and over again. Any parent with small children will know what I mean when I say it is like having the Peppa Pig song in your mind constantly.
And the other strange thing was that none of us could buy beer here without an ID to prove our age! Thank God, our US colleagues were well prepared and they ended up being called on to satisfy our thirst.
