Romania Road Trip

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkXB4vxRW-4 This is a summary of the journey we have made over 8 days, covering approximately 1,700kms. The country exceeded expectations - it was beautiful, we had good food and everything was relatively cheap. ...

Last stop Bucharest

5 June 2016 By Amber Hatcher Leave a Comment

Bucharest

This was our last long drive from Transylvania to Bucharest. We stayed in the centre of Bucharest, very near to the Old Town area which has a variety of beautiful buildings and interesting sculptures. This area also has an abundance of restaurants with tables set up on the cobbled streets outside so you can enjoy the sunshine and cool breeze whilst watching people walking past. We explored the nearby park which had a lake in the middle with rowing boats for hire. The park was pretty busy ...

Beautiful Sibiu

Sibiu shop

The centre of Sibiu is truly beautiful with the usual beautiful buildings and there are many restaurants set up along the pedestrianised cobbled roads and at the side of the main square. Alex introduced us to a Romanian snack called Gogoasa - it was like a large deep fried dumpling filled with chocolate sauce. The texture is similar to a donut. I truly like the shop selling this - it was glass fronted with a little window for you to place your order. I found some unusual buildings ...

Sunset in Medias

Medias sunset

After the salt mine trip, we headed back to Medias to have lunch at Alex's favourite pizza place. We finally get to eat the amazing pizzas Alex has been harping over the last 4 years whilst he was in London, comparing these pizzas with Dominos & Pizza Express. I must admit these pizzas were extremely good, with a lovely thin crispy crust and an generous amount of ingredients. David demolished the whole pizza in record time. So whilst Alex spend more time with his family here for the ...

Turda Salt Mine

Turda main chamber from top

The Salt Mines in Turda has to be one of the most amazing sights in Romania. We started with a long walk in an underground passage into the mountains. The walls further in have a white sheen of salt. And then you get a glimpse of the top of the cavern with its stripes of salt on its walls. As we venture further, we could look down and see parts of the main cavern. At one point we could see a small lake with boats moored on the side. It was such a beautiful sight from above. We were ...

Hotel in Cluj

Cluj hotel

We have stayed in a variety of hotels from small, old ones full of history to modern hotels. This hotel takes the prize for the most awesome first impression. Truly lovely decor in the room. We did not have time to visit this town which is pretty large with a prominent university. We wandered round to a steak place for dinner - this was the most expensive meal to date. However, the quality of the steak was excellent. ...

Colourful Sighișoara

1 June 2016 By Amber Hatcher Leave a Comment

Sighisoara tea

We stayed the night in Sighișoara, a town in Transylvania. We wandered around the town in the evening and we noticed how colourful all the buildings are. It is a pretty town with interesting architecture and roof tops. As with many of our previous hotels, this hotel is very old, with worn wooden floors and heavy wooden doors. This place gave us keys for our bedroom doors, not magnetic cards! This little old hotel also served the best selection of dried tea leaves and flowers and home-made ...
