This is one of my many intentions for this special year of my life. Many of the 50 items in my Bucket List will indeed be things that I wish to do more of to make me happy.
I have previously lived my life day by day going through the motions of working, cleaning, cooking, sorting out the boys and all the minutiae of running a home and family. And time just flew by and I had no recollection of how the years have gone by.
Now I am more mindful about my days – I choose to create little happiness events. I make plans to schedule these into my life. Some of the happy events are big ones like a family holiday in the summer and a trip to Transylvania in May. Others are small little things that I have scheduled that will make me happy – lunch with an old friend, 2 hours to read in bed on Saturday night, a massage in a couple of weeks and time set aside on Sunday to make another attempt at baking a cake successfully.
It is becoming more and more apparent to me in the last couple of years that it is the memories of good times and experiences that truly matters. And as my memories can fail me, I wanted to ensure that I have a way to recall the happy events. Besides taking loads of photos, I started to keep a journal. This journal also serves as my Gratitude Journal. I write down in the morning a list of 3 things I am grateful for. I will endeavour not to repeat anything on the list as long as I can.
I love this photo of David playing in the surf on a beach in Cancun last summer. He was having such a lot of fun running in and out of the sea, being chased by the strong waves. It makes me incredibly happy to look back at photos like these and recall the fun and enjoyment we all had together.
Yes, it does not have to be a grand thing. Do something simple, but do more of it. Lots more.
