“Hey, the hotel is only 5 mins walk away,” Alex said as we drew up to Chiangmai Railway Station after a delay of 3 hours.
“Look, if we follow Google maps, this should be really easy.”
Ah, why not. This will save me some money to spend elsewhere, like a nice massage or some delicious food, especially hot and spicy ones. So we waved away the multitude of taxi drivers offering to take us to our hotel at a “very good price”.
Off we trot with our 2 small rollie bags. Typically in Asia, pedestrian pavements are pretty much non existent or are not consistent along a roadside. A pedestrian will have to negotiate through shops and potholes and even walk on parts of the road. I thought we managed pretty well without getting runned over by a motorbike.
“Umm Mum, what did you book us into?” John asked as we stared at the little run down house with rusty gates located at the Google map point.
This did not look like the sumptuous Thai style resort according to TripAdvisor. So off I went to ask at the nearby hardware shop. “It’s a long way away, must take taxi.”
Of course, no taxi was in sight when one is needed. Grrr!
Finally a tuk tuk pooters along and we quickly waved it down. We somehow managed to squeeze the four of us plus 2 bags inside. Yippee!
So here we are at Khum Phaya Resort and Spa by Centara Boutique Collection and off to the pool we went!
