We had a great afternoon visiting the infamous Bran Castle of the Dracula notoriety. The entrance leading up to the grounds of the castle was busy with many souvenir shops selling all things related to Dracula. As with all castles, it is nestled on the side of a hill and in this instance the path leading up to the actual castle was incredibly steep. We had a good work-out walking up - it certainly felt like someone had cranked up the gym running machine to a 30 degree incline!!! Walking ...
Peleș Castle – a fairytale castle
Peleș Castle reminds me of the old fairy tales - of beautiful princesses and handsome princes. It is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the Carpathian Mountains and is absolutely beautiful in my eyes. The drive through the mountains this morning reminded me of my many drives up the Alps many years ago - a myriad of hairpin turns and glimpses of the valley below should one miss the turn!!! We parked our car halfway up the long drive and walked the rest of the way. The walk took us up a cobblestone ...
Brasov
Day 3 - this is the epitome of our road trip - 6 hours of driving through a flat landscape to the mountainous terrain in Brasov. We stopped by a fountain half way up the mountain where it is famed for its clear, fresh and cool waters. Like many people, we too discarded the water in our bottles and refill them with the fresh spring water. I am so glad we have Alex ...
Meandering through the Danube Delta

It is amazing how large the area is and we have only covered a small section of the area. There was a group of German tourists with their Germain- speaking guide and the others were Romanian and captain of the boat only spoke in Romanian to explain the different features on our trip. At some point, music was played over the intercom - I must say it is both hilarious and rather ...
Road trip in Romania
This trip was planned months ago by my very good friend, Alex, who started off as my aupair to help me with David about 4 years ago. Alex has since built up his own internet marketing business and will be leaving our family shortly. And this was our opportunity to visit his home country with him as our guide. We arrived in Bucharest this morning to a beautiful sunny and warm day. By the time we collected our hire car, it was already past noon and we were keen to get on our journey to Tulcea ...
