A surprise school award for David

17 July 2014 By Amber Hatcher Leave a Comment

David surprise award

My mobile phone rang yesterday and I see the school's name on the phone screen. My first thought was, "Oh no .... what has David done now???" "Don't worry, there is nothing wrong," the school obviously know of David and me. "It is the end of the year award ceremony tomorrow and David is going receive an award. Please come join us at the school and don't tell David as it will be a surprise for him." You could have knocked me over with a feather then - I was gob-smacked! I had no idea ...

A contrast of two very different meals

Soup Kitchen helpers

On Thursday last week I was in Canary Wharf on the 30th floor of a prestigious bank enjoying the absolutely amazing view. The rain had just stopped and I could see the skyline miles ahead and the gentle flow of the River Thames. After our meeting, we headed off to a smart dinner at a riverside restaurant nearby. We were served by attentive and immaculately dressed waiting staff. Our meal was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. It was a reunion of old colleagues and friends and all ...

A SpongeBob postbox in New York!

4 March 2014 By Amber Hatcher Leave a Comment

SpongeBob

I am on a business trip to New York. The temperature here is minus 6 degrees Celsius. It is freezing cold in New York! I have come well prepared on this trip with my thickest coat which makes me feel like I am being wrapped in a cosy duvet. However, with my girth, I probably look like Michelin man wearing that. But who cares - I am warm and toasty! So there I was, wrapped up in my coat and woolly scarf with my warmest gloves on, walking past Bryant Park towards the Bank of America ...

Great to have a Thai cousin

Bangkok cousin Chitra

We had a lovely day spent with my cousin Chitra. We spent the morning at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo, south of Bangkok. In spite of its name the place actaully has a great variety of other animal attractions. Piggy race, a crocodile show, tigers and talented elephants. We fed the camels with long beans. Feeding the tigers was done by shooting at the small cages on an overhead rope holding the meat. The meat drops down to the waiting tigers below if you hit the target on the cage. The boys were ...

Mosquitoes in Bangkok

16 August 2013 By Amber Hatcher Leave a Comment

Hairy arms

Why do mosquitoes like me so much? After the bed bugs from Padang Besar, I have now been attacked by mosquitos lots on my legs. John and David are not bitten as much, but poor John is reacting badly to a bite on his arm. He is now on antibiotics after the surrounding area became red and hot. I counted all my itchy spots and they total 26 bites. Alex on the other hand has only 1 red bite. I have a theory why he has only one. He has such hairy arms and legs, the mosquitoes could not even ...
