My thoughts often turn to my late parents when I return to South East Asia, especially when I visit the sea. So here I am at Patong Beach in Phuket, having just arrived the previous night. An early morning venture out to the beach before the crowds arrive. My father loved the sea and was interested in all manner of water sports in his younger days. He swam, snorkelled and dived in the sea. He also loved deep sea fishing, going out with friends in a boat for hours. There were many black & ...

Little old ladies leading the way
I am on the road again - not 120 miles but 3,400 miles this time. New York again for work. As usual I travel on a Saturday in order to get the discounted airfare. Breakfast is being served at the British Airways Galleries Club Lounge. I am trying to be healthy and hence went for grapefruits and tomato juice. However, I spotted a couple of little old ladies ahead who have had no hesitation starting on the champagne at 10.30am! When I get to that age, please let me be like them! I got ...
Eating out whilst travelling alone
I have driven to Bristol for a property training course over the weekend. This is my first trip into Bristol and I am staying in an area called Clifton. But who cares - I am warm and toasty! So there I was, wrapped up in my coat and woolly scarf with my warmest gloves on, walking past Bryant Park towards the Bank of America ...
1,500 kms of Portuguese roads and no McDonalds
We have done so well. Almost a week of travelling and no McDonalds at all so far! We have been enjoying the freshly cooked seafood here. This has been so, so much better - healthy & yummy! "Mum, I am going to have a Double Sausage McMuffin for breakfast when we are home on Sun," David says. Grrrrr.... We woke up yesterday to torrential rain at Viseu - exactly like the London we left behind. The drive through the mountains this time was very different, especially when a dense fog ...
